Reopening Guidance and Updates for NI museum sector

07 August 2020

Reopening Guidance

The Department for Communities has issued Culture and Heritage Destinations Venues: Guidance for a phased Return.

The National Museums Directors Council has issued Good Practice Guidance for Reopening Museums which is regularly updated.

Association of Independent Museums and the Museum Development Network have produced a checklist to be used in conjunction with the Guidelines and to help museums take a strategic, well informed approach to making decisions on reopening and implementing a safe and effective plan in conjunction with the national guidance for museums. Our Funding Programmes

During August we will be opening a small grants programme for independent museums supported by the Art Fund and our colleagues in the Museums Development Network.  This Recovery Grant will enable seven independent museums to apply up to £1,500 to purchase resources to ensure a safe-reopening and, to adapt and find new ways to connect, engage and inspire their audiences.

We have also been working with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and assessing the applications by museums to the Organisations Emergency Programme.  Decisions are imminent.

In collaboration with the Department for Communities, we have launched a new funding programme for Access and Inclusion.  Please CLICK HERE.

The Collecting for the Future Acquisitions Programme is open and we welcome applications.  Please CLICK HERE.

We have moved our training online until December 2020 and it is FREE to members.  Fore more details of upcoming training courses please CLICK HERE.

New Initiative – LET’S TALK

We have introduced LET’S TALK for our members to share project news and ideas, get to know partner organisations and to promote debate and discussion.

LET’S TALK takes place monthly on a Tuesday afternoon at 3pm.  Grab a cuppa and find out what’s happening in the local museum sector in Northern Ireland.

Details of the next session on August 25 can be found HERE.
